MODELLING CONCEPTS

Edges/Corners vs curvature

Because we would like to have a logically defined structure consisting of connected cross sections, decisions will often need to be made as to whether a structure in a subdivision surface is an edge or corner or whether it is simply curvature within an area.

This is one of the more nuanced areas of subdivision surface modelling and comes largely with experience.

I will try to highlight the times when i make these decisions so you can better understand your own topology when you are modelling. As I say, it is one of the more advanced concerns in subdivision surface modelling and the correct solution is not always clear.
