Radial Connection Expansion.

The inverse of the Radial COnnection Reduction technique is also useful everywhere you have a very detailed object which need to be connected a sparse geometry.

Radial Connection Expansion

Radial Connection Reduction

There are several ways to achieve this technique. This is a fairly efficient method:

A slightly different method is required for radial expansion as we need to avoid Convex polygons which would naturally occur.

Select the full loop which you want to use to transition to a higher count.

press "e" to extrude and "s" to scale it down a little.

right click and choose subdivide from the pop up menu.

On the inner loop find a vertex with no edge running up to the outer loop.

Shift and select the vertex at the top of the edge next to it.

Shift and select the next vertex around on the inner loop

Press J to join them.

Miss out a vertex (on the inner loop)

Repeat this process until they are all connected.

Alt click one of the edges inside the triangular shapes then shift alt-and click all of the others.

Press x and choose dissolve edges.

select the inner loop, press "e" to extrude and scale it down slightly.

Now go around pressing "Ctrl-r" to inset edges at the base of each triangle.

Select the very inner loop and use the circle tool to make it a perfect circle.
