MODELLING CONCEPTS

Re-topology

Models created using free-form techniques such as sculpting or digitising real world objects are not usable in production.

Logos, text and any object which has a clear description as a 2D object will need to be retopologised to be used as a 3D object. You can see lots of examples of this when we retopologise a typeface.

Models made using polygonal modeling techniques, digitising and sculpting are not usable in production.

These models will always need to be re-topologised to be useful in any production.

Laying new, considered, quad-based geometry over high resolution geometry is a common task and if that can be done with all of our other concerns in mind, you will have become a good subdivision surface modeller.

At The time of writing I have not yet created any retopology guides for sculpted models but I will add one here when it is completed.
